Luton Hoo, the seat of Earl Bute

An antique miniature hand coloured aquatint engraved print of Luton Hoo in Bedfordshire, the seat of Earl Bute, from John Hassell's Picturesque Rides and Walks, with excursions by Water, thirty miles round the British Metropolis, Illustrated in a series of engravings. Published 1816-1818. Drawn by John Hassell and engraved by David Havell. Titled and dated 1817. A fine miniature series with beautiful original fine hand colouring. Image size approx 9 x 6 cm with plate mark and good margins. Excellent condition. Scarce.

John Hassell (c. 1767-1825) lived in London and was an aquatint engraver of small topographical views and bookplates. He was also a watercolour landscape painter and author of many books on water colour paintings and drawings.
